The evening of February 24th is slated to be a special evening of entertainment for wounded warriors and their families. On this night, our first home is scheduled to be donated to a wounded warrior and their family. Warriors from the Navy Seals in Coronado and Camp Pendleton bases will be in attendance with us to celebrate on the deck of the historic Midway aircraft carrier and have a special dinner and concert by the Derek Scholl Band. Given all the troops have been through, Derek’s new release, “When They Come Back”, is sure to be an emotional highlight of the evening. Jeremiah Workman, Navy Cross recipient, will also be in attendance signing copies of his book, Shadow of the Sword: A Marine's Journey of War, Heroism, and Redemption (Random House). The concert will be preceded by a day of relaxing golf with the warriors and dinner guests. Please check back to see pictures and article on the event.

The project, which is targeted to be announced to the media in mid-February, includes some of the most preeminent companies in the state. Lt Gen Leroy Sisco, USA (Ret) says “the great thing is not only will great companies be involved but some of the most successful business leaders in the nation will serve on the guidance committee to give guidance, structure and direction when and where we may need to make some u-turns.” A formal application strategy for both individuals and companies will be announced in combination with the media release.

Through the leadership of wounded warrior, SSG Josh Kinser, the MWSF life skills retreats have hit record levels. The retreats have been conducted at nearby ranches in South Texas as well as trips to Colorado, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Florida and Iowa. Ken Eakes, Executive Director at the Foundation indicates, “Josh’s leadership skills, combat experiences and understanding of the troops has allowed us to go to new levels of connecting with the troops involved in the Life Skills retreats. The mentoring is an important component of everything we do, because the reality is the trips are not just about a good time, but about connecting to the issues and steps beyond the trips”. The Fall outings have included fishing and hunting, Spring and Summer plans include the addition of golf outings as well. Ken further says, “The game of golf allows the warriors to participate on a life long basis in a great game that can be played with practically any disability the troops may have.”

MWSF was pleased to host wounded warriors and spouses at the Joe Nicholls concert in San Antonio, Texas! As you can see many of the warriors were able to go backstage where they met Joe and had a chance to get to know him. Joe was able to hear about the warriors and the challenges they face as they transition back into civilian life. As a side note Joe was the headliner at the MWSF Country 4 Our Country outdoor concert a few days prior to his concert appearance in San Antonio.
