Stories of our Heroes: USMC Sgt. Wilbert Enriquez

HE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A MARINE.

 In March 2010, he was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom - And only a few short months later while on a mounted patrol his vehicle struck an IED. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart for wounds sustained while on that combat mission. Additionally, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 'V' Device and Combat Action Badge for his actions in Afghanistan. The wounds he sustained ended his career in the United States Marine Corps. It was this January, the Military Warriors Support Foundation was able to award Will Enriquez and his family with a beautiful, mortgage-free home in Kingwood, Texas. This incredible privilege to serve one of our nation's combat wounded heroes will help him make the difficult transition from military to civilian life. Settling into his home, Will has an incredible gift and talent, as he makes hand carved canes for veterans and gives them out at the local VA hospital. Recently, a wood carving machine was donated to him to help him make special and precise cuts. He visits the his local VA every Thursday and is very passionate about the creative side of wood carving. His canes will be featured in an auction on July 4, 2017 at his local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
