Apartments4Heroes, and the People That Make It Happen

Military Warriors Support Foundation is known for fulfilling the needs of combat-wounded heroes and Gold Star spouses. Some of our key programs include Homes4WoundedHeroes, Transportation4Heroes, Skills4Life and Leadership4Life. All of which are programs of support aimed at helping the participants re-integrate back into civilian life. Our Apartments4Heroes (A4H) program provides housing for our heroes that are not at a point in their life where long term homeownership makes sense. One of those combat-wounded heroes is former U.S. Army Specialist Erik Lane, whose time in the A4H program is drawing to a close. "Being in the Apartments4Heroes program has allowed me to get my finances on track through the Family & Financial Mentorship program," said Lane. He spent six years as an infantryman before returning to civilian life in 2016.

“A good friend of mine, who’d received a home from MWSF, told me about the apartments program and I thought it would be perfect for me.”

Erik says that he has benefitted from both the A4H program as well as the positive relationship he has developed with the staff of Loretto at Creekside, where he’s been living. “They've been awesome. Julie always says, ‘if you need anything or have any questions, just walk in here and ask.’ If I want to walk straight into her office and talk directly to her, I can do that too! Sometimes I'll go in there and talk to her for over an hour about life or anything."Loretto at Creekside was the first organization to partner with Military Warriors Support Foundation by offering one of their premium apartments for the A4H program."When we heard about the program, and learned how it benefits veterans, we felt that it was a great way to give back to the community,” said Julie Davis, Property Manager for Loretto. “San Antonio has a huge military presence and we felt that it was important to support those that served our country.”According to Davis, it’s about more than benefitting local veterans; it’s also about honoring their service to our country and ensuring they feel like a valued part of the community.

"Partnering with the program has allowed us a different way to thank the wounded veterans for what they've done for our country,” said Davis. “Although we will never be able to thank them enough for the sacrifices they've made for the American people, this is a small token of our appreciation. We are proud of the partnership and hope to grow with the program."Davis says she is proud to work for a property management company that wants to honor our Nation’s combat-wounded heroes as much as she does."I'm incredibly grateful to work for the ownership group that supports this program. It's comforting to know that we have similar values when it comes to supporting our local community and the military,” said Davis. “They are all very down to earth individuals and very much involved in the day to day operations of this beautiful property. They take great pride in the appearance and maintenance of the apartments in an effort to ensure the residents have a comfortable living environment."Loretto at Creekside is located about 5 miles from Randolph Air Force Base, less than 10 miles from Ft. Sam, and is a great place to live for military members stationed in San Antonio. As for Lane, he has this to say for anyone who’s on the fence about applying for one of MWSF’s different programs. "If you're considering applying for one of Military Warriors Support Foundation's programs, you should go for it!” said Lane. “They have a lot to offer, whether you’re looking to go on an outdoor adventure with the Skills4Life program or applying for an apartment, home or vehicle.”For more information about Military Warriors Support Foundation, or the Apartments4Heroes program, call (210) 615-8973.
