Apartments4Heroes, and the People That Make It Happen
Military Warriors Support Foundation is known for fulfilling the needs of combat-wounded heroes and Gold Star spouses. Some of our key programs include Homes4WoundedHeroes, Transportation4Heroes, Skills4Life and Leadership4Life. All of which are programs of support aimed at helping the participants re-integrate back into civilian life. Our Apartments4Heroes (A4H) program provides housing for our heroes that are not at a point in their life where long term homeownership makes sense. One of those combat-wounded heroes is former U.S. Army Specialist Erik Lane, whose time in the A4H program is drawing to a close. "Being in the Apartments4Heroes program has allowed me to get my finances on track through the Family & Financial Mentorship program," said Lane. He spent six years as an infantryman before returning to civilian life in 2016.
“A good friend of mine, who’d received a home from MWSF, told me about the apartments program and I thought it would be perfect for me.”
Erik says that he has benefitted from both the A4H program as well as the positive relationship he has developed with the staff of Loretto at Creekside, where he’s been living. “They've been awesome. Julie always says, ‘if you need anything or have any questions, just walk in here and ask.’ If I want to walk straight into her office and talk directly to her, I can do that too! Sometimes I'll go in there and talk to her for over an hour about life or anything."Loretto at Creekside was the first organization to partner with Military Warriors Support Foundation by offering one of their premium apartments for the A4H program."When we heard about the program, and learned how it benefits veterans, we felt that it was a great way to give back to the community,” said Julie Davis, Property Manager for Loretto. “San Antonio has a huge military presence and we felt that it was important to support those that served our country.”According to Davis, it’s about more than benefitting local veterans; it’s also about honoring their service to our country and ensuring they feel like a valued part of the community.
