As part of its ongoing commitment to make positive contributions to the communities it serves, Wells Fargo, in collaboration with the Mitchell Buick-GMC and Military Warriors Support Foundation, presented a payment-free vehicle to retired U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant George Campbell on Thursday, November 5.Wells Fargo and Mitchell Buick-GMC sponsored the donation of a new 2020 GMC Terrain for Military Warriors Support Foundation’s Transportation4Heroes program, which awards payment-free vehicles and provides one-year of family and financial mentorship to combat-wounded veterans and Gold Star families to help smooth the transition from the military to civilian life.“It is our humble privilege to come together and honor retired U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant George Campbell, who selflessly served to protect our freedom,” shared retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major David Dougherty, Director of Skills4Life for Military Warriors Support Foundation. “If it weren't for the collaboration with Wells Fargo and Mitchell Buick-GMC, we wouldn't be able to continue to support and serve our nation’s heroes.”Growing up, George Campbell always had a strong desire to serve his country. He came from a long lineage of military service members, which paved the way for him to join the U.S. Army in 1994. Specialist Campbell served in the Army National Guard for over four years and was stationed in West Virginia before enlisting in the Air National Guard, a federal reserve military force of the United States Air Force. During his time in the U.S. Air Force, he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and was stationed in South Carolina, Arizona, Texas, Virginia, and North Carolina. In June 2005, while deployed to Iraq, he was wounded while supporting combat operations and became a recipient of the Purple Heart for his injuries. After serving 17 years in the military, Air Force Staff Sergeant Campbell medically retired and received several awards for his heroism and service including an Air Force Organizational Excellence Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and many others.
