Military Warriors fundraiser and partnership with Valero Texas Open hosts Heroes in a golf competition
San Antonio, TX (May 6, 2021) – Military Warriors Support Foundation continues a wonderful partnership with the Valero Texas Open. On Saturday, April 3rd, 2021, Valero Texas Open hosted a Stronghold Pro-Am on the Canyons Course. Six local Heroes and Four Heroes from the North Texas Warrior Golf Association in Dallas were paired with a professional golfer, not in play for the championship. This peer-to-peer mentorship program is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our Heroes provided through our Skills4Life program, donations, and partnerships. Our ten Heroes had the opportunity to work with some major names and professionals in the industry while competing with one another. The Valero Texas Open is the 3rd oldest PGA Tour Tournament and the 5th oldest professional tournament in North America after being established in 1922. It is the only tournament to be hosted in the same city – San Antonio - since its creation. Currently, TPC San Antonio (The Oaks course) is in its 12th year of hosting the Valero Texas Open. This event has always been a big one for Military Warriors Skills4Life. Besides the fundraising opportunities, Skills4Life provides recreational outings and peer-to-peer mentorship. This program is provided to veterans wounded in direct combat with an enemy force & unmarried Gold Star spouses whose loved one was killed-in-action with hunting, fishing, and golfing adventures. There is still a great need for supports for our Heroes and Gold Star Families. Through the support of sponsors and partners, Military Warriors Support Foundation has devoted itself to providing needs and joy to our Heroes and Gold Star Families. Many enlisted and retired men and women from the armed forces take leaves of absence to be volunteers at the Valero Texas Open. And from a historical perspective, the Valero Texas Open is the only PGA TOUR event to have been played on a military golf course (Fort Sam Houston Golf Course in 1950, 1951, 1956 & 1960).The freedom assured for us by those who defend America makes events like the Valero Texas Open possible. We are proud to honor the armed forces.
