Three Heroes Honored at Fort Novosel, Alabama

November 7, 2024 - In an extraordinary gesture of gratitude, a group of veterans at Fort Novosel, Alabama received a life-changing surprise, thanks to the partnership between Military Warriors Support Foundation (MWSF) and EURPAC.

During a special celebration at the Fort Novosel commissary, three veterans were awarded mortgage-free homes, and another was awarded a payment-free vehicle each a powerful symbol of appreciation for their sacrifices.

Military Warriors Support Foundation’s Founder, General Leroy Sisco proudly introduced the heroes. One of the honored veterans, retired U.S. Army Major Jerry Free, had a deeply personal connection to Fort Novosel.

“This is where I completed advanced aviation training after starting in Texas,” Major Free shared.

His distinguished career includes earning three Distinguished Flying Crosses, a Purple Heart, and rescuing a prisoner of war held captive for five years during the Vietnam War. Returning to Fort Novosel for the first time since his training, Major Free expressed his gratitude:

“Receiving this gift is humbling and gratifying. It’s an opportunity that allows me to give back what’s been given to me.”

In addition to the homes and vehicles, MWSF provides financial literacy courses to recipients, ensuring long-term stability and success. For retired Army Staff Sergeant Gerardo Contreras Jr., the impact of this support is life-changing.

“This lifts a huge financial burden from my family. Coming from Colorado, where the cost of living is so high, this gift is more than a ‘thank you for your service.’ It’s a commitment to ensuring veterans like me are cared for—it means the world.”

EURPAC President Michael Stewart echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of showing appreciation for our nation’s heroes:

“There’s no greater cause than supporting those who’ve served our country.”

Through the dedication of MWSF and its partners, these moments remind us all of the power of gratitude and the life-changing difference it can make for our heroes.
